From Middleburg, Virginia—our new favorite backyard grilling wine. A blend of Syrah, Mourvedre and Tannat—this is a lighter smoky red with notes of black cherry, dried herbs, spicy oak and a smoked-meat flavour on the finish. Perfect for BBQ, brisket, and burgers, too!
58% Syrah, 32% Cabernet Franc, 5% Mourvedre, 5% Tannat. 12.5% ABV.
The estate used to be Swedenburg, which was an historic estate insofar as it was their lawsuit that opened the doors to allowing Virginia wineries to ship their wines. In 2013, the Swedenburg family sold the property to David Greenhill, an entrepreneur who has been called “The Most Interesting Man in the World”, whose CASE includes telecommunications and publishing, as well as having earned a PhD in Theology from Yale University. His winemaking team is a French husband and wife, Sébastien Marquet and Isabelle Truchon; and word has it that Michael Shaps has been a (very) unofficial consultant. All of which bodes well for an historic estate now in apparently good hands.
