210 The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf
A village Shepherd Boy tended to his Master’s sheep, guarding the flock from Wolves. As dull days drug on, the Boy sought some amusement. “WOLF!” he cried, and the Villagers rushed to his aide — only to find him laughing at their fright. He played the trick once more, to the Villagers’ great anger. So when a true Wolf snuck into the pasture, the Boy cried for help. But the Villagers would not be fooled. The Boy watched in horror as the Wolf slaughtered his flock. For there is no believing a liar, even when he speaks the truth.
